Prospects Spring & Summer 2018 Program

Early Planning

Updated Friday October 27, 2017 by Prospects.

We continue to tweak our program to provide a unique travel experience for our customers.  Prospects core customers are mult-sport travel players (many play travel soccer, travel hockey, and HS Football).  Most programs in the area are year round programs, requiring a significant time commitment year round and a significant financial commitment to go with a year round program.  The challenge with a seasonal program is building and maintaining a team framework and chemistry, which requires time.  We believe there is a better way, where players continue to play other sports while continuing to master this great game of lacrosse.  Our year round model provides opportunities to customize development and team development around the availability of the player.  The following is our new Spring/Summer format:

  1. Start youth team development (u11, u13, and u15) EARLIER with a Spring Pre-Season.  We will hold weekend practices (Sundays) in April and May, with 1-2 scrimmages in May/June before tournaments.  Conceptually, players would play with their rec teams Mon-Sat and we would supplement that experience with travel training on Sundays.  We will have a "pre-season" fee ($50) we charge for players who wish to take advantage of these weekend practices and scrimmages (Estimated up to 8 practices and 1-2 Scrimmage).
  2. Use our coaches.  Our coaches are available to provide individual and small group instruction YEAR ROUND.  Our coaches have college playing experience as attackman and defense.  Team practices are not a time to focus on individuals, using a small group (3-6 players) allows a coach to focus on the details of individual play while having a partner to help with passing and receiving passes.
  3. 2018 Schedule is un-folding already; the following are the weekends we are targeting and tournament locations:

June 16-17

Hogan's Summer Exposure

(5 Games)

Annapolis, MD

June 23-24

Kings Challenge (5 Games)

Richmond, VA

July 8

Battle of Bull Run

(3 Games)

Leesburg, VA

July 14-15

Hogan’s Hershey

(5 Games)

Harrisburg/Hershey, PA

The Hogan tournament has officially moved out 1 week.  This tournament has been a core weekend in our format and we wish to maintain that tournament as our season wrap-up tourney.  The other dates are estimated, but we believe these estimates are reasonable.

d)  Register as Grad Year teams and define teams by tournament (Blending Teams to play in tournament age-based Divisions and/or playing in grad year divisions).  Each tournament is unique in how they format divisions, we want to register based on grad year and blend teams to create the best experience per tournament.

High School Program 2018 (Grad Years 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018)
In 2017 we blended rising 9th graders with our high school team for practices.  We intend to follow this format again in 2018.  While our youth program emphasizes skills development, our high school program emphasizes competitive play and strategy.  Most players don't complete their high school Spring season before early May (depending on post season results).  We will start Sunday practices by mid-May to rapidly prepare for the start of the Summer season.  Considering we will start High School later, we will not hold HS tryouts till early May, toward the completion of the Spring season.

Many players cannot commit to 4 weekends in the summer.  We have priced the season as a 3 tournament season, expecting players to miss at least 1 weekend.  We will roster 24 per team to ensure we have a healthy bench per tournament (usually about 20 players).

Goalies are Special!

No other position can influence a game as much as the Goalie.  We offer dedicated goalies a 1/2 price discount for all dedicated goalies.  We are also working to develop a more focused goalie development format.  Goalies require different skill development (hand eye, different footwork, and positioning).  Expect changes in this area in 2018.
